MeddiQuest were one of the first companies to take advantage of FDA's offer to accept one copy of a 510(k) in electronic format, in fact our involvement in FDA electronic initiatives goes back some 10 years to when Neil was part of the open meeting on regulating the internet. For the last year we have gradually been moving all our documentation into a secure electronic format and have managed to reduce our paper consumption in the office by over 90 per cent. Obviously there has had to be a considerable investment in both hardware and software, and some initial teething troubles in accepting documents from some of our custoemr's systems, but the bugs are out of the system, we see this as a major advantage.
Having done away with paper ... it seemed only logical to do away with the office! After all with a webcam on every desk, it hardly matters where we are and all that commuting ccan be saved. This also means that have greater flexibility in our hours giving better service to our customers in different time zones.
We now use "sustainable" transport systems for all travel under three miles - our new company bikes were manufactured in Cambodia, which matches with our continued support of the Cambodia Trust . Well bikes, all be them mountain bikes, did not seem to fit our image, or at least the image favored by some of younger associates, so we seem to have company roller blades as well!
We now have our new fuel efficent diesel powered truck and have encouraged our associates to use less polluting vehicles while on company business.
By sticking to low cost airlines using nearby Stansted, Luton and East Midlands Airports we have minimized our impact on the environment as they have highly utilized fuel efficent modern aircraft - and of course we have reduced travel to get to the airport in the first place!
Our investment in technology has had the additional effect of cutting down our need for international travel and through video conferencing, web-seminars and on-line meetings we have managed to cut down our international travel schedule ... of course there is no substitute for the face-to-face meeting, but better communications give us more options!
Not only are we continuing our sustainability initiative, but helping others to address the issue. We even have new businesses growing out of our commitment sustainable transport ...
